About The ADU Builder
Who We Are
A dedicated accessory dwelling unit division built on three decades of hands-on construction experience, serving homeowners across Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Our Story
The ADU Builder is a dedicated accessory dwelling unit division created to help Maryland homeowners navigate one of the biggest shifts in state housing policy in decades. When Maryland’s statewide ADU Act (SB 891 / HB 1466) opened the door for detached units, garage conversions, basement conversions, attic conversions, and in-law suites, we saw homeowners who wanted to build but couldn’t find a contractor who specialized in the zoning, permitting, and construction challenges that ADUs bring — as opposed to a typical remodel.
We’re backed by more than three decades of hands-on residential and commercial construction experience in Anne Arundel County: real projects, real permits pulled, and real relationships with local building departments. Rather than treating ADUs as a side offering, we built a team and a process focused on them specifically, from the first feasibility conversation through final inspection.
What We Believe
Every project we take on is built on three principles.
Integrity
We tell you what a project really requires and really costs before you spend a dollar on plans — not after.
Quality
Craftsmanship built to last, not just built to pass inspection.
Communication
You always know exactly where your project stands, from permitting through final walkthrough.
How We Work
We start every project the same way: an on-site conversation about what you actually want the space to do — rental income, an aging parent nearby, a home office, an adult child moving back — and what your property and local zoning allow. From there we bring the same engineering and construction judgment we’ve used on decades of additions and remodels to the specific requirements of an ADU: separate egress, utility connections, setback and lot-coverage limits, and Anne Arundel County’s permitting process.
We estimate at fair market value — not the lowest number to win the job or the highest number to pad the margin — and we build for homeowners who plan to be in their homes for years, not one-off transactions. See our ADU cost guide for real ranges by project type.
Licensed, Insured, and Local
We’re licensed and insured in the state of Maryland (MHIC #87697), and every ADU we build goes through the same county permitting and inspection process your home did. We’re based in Anne Arundel County and concentrate our work in Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park, Crofton, and Odenton — see our full service area for what’s different about building in each one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a dedicated ADU builder instead of a general contractor?
A general remodel and an ADU aren’t the same project. ADUs typically need a separate egress, sometimes a separate utility connection, and they’re reviewed against Maryland’s new statewide ADU standards on top of normal building code. We focus specifically on that scope, so permitting and design decisions get made right the first time instead of causing delays mid-build.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We’re licensed and insured to build in the state of Maryland, and we pull the required permits for every project rather than working around them.
What areas do you serve?
We concentrate our ADU work in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, including Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park, Crofton, and Odenton. See our service area page for details specific to your town.
